So, the news anchors here in Atlanta seriously referred to a snowstorm from a couple of years ago as "snowmageddon"...and I thought it was one part hilarious and one part so sad and lame. But we did get about 4 inches of snow yesterday which is the first snow we've seen since we've been in Georgia! This is the first snow that Thomas has gotten to play in too (he was alive when we had LOTS of big snows in Va Beach, but he was only a couple weeks old and I don't
think he remembers it).
The snow started in the morning while Jeff was at work, so I suited the boys up and sent them out while it was just starting to dust the ground...because I kept thinking, who knows if this stuff will stop and they will have missed their opportunity to catch a snowflake on their tongue?!
I did warn Jacob, after observing his love of licking snow off various surfaces, that he should not lick anything metal...we've all seen "A Christmas Story"...
A couple hours later, Jeff had made it home...it took him FOREVER to get home...or at least that's what I thought early in the day. It was only later in the afternoon when we started hearing horror stories about people getting stuck in traffic and on icy roads trying to leave their jobs in Atlanta. Jeff's 45 minute drive home didn't seem so bad when you think about people being stuck in their cars for 16 HOURS. But, anyway, Jeff made it home around lunch time, after having to park his car at the clubhouse at the front of the neighborhood and walk in his dress clothes to our house. No one makes it up the hill at the front of our neighborhood in the snow, evidently...as evidenced by some pictures we saw people from the Planters posting online:

The boys played outside, between yesterday and today, for SO MANY HOURS! Jacob especially. Thomas was a trooper, I wasn't sure if he would want to play for very long. I figured he would think the snow was neat, but I thought, "I'm going to spend 15 minutes getting him dressed and then he'll be back in 10 minutes later". That didn't happen though! He stayed out for at least an hour at a time and Jacob stayed out for so long that his little face had small areas of frostbite! (I had to convince him to keep his hat on when I was out with him yesterday late afternoon...he was sweating and didn't think he needed it!)
Jacob is climbing his bear hunting tree....if you look closely. I am SO glad that his imagination is still 100% intact at 7 years old:) !
In his perch, just waiting for the bears to show themselves!
It was a really fun day...even with getting kids dressed and undressed, drying the wet clothes, etc. It was WORTH IT! Jacob just had the best time outside...he was sledding down the front hill until about 7 pm last night, and at that point he was all by himself! Jeff and I just watched from the front window. It was a good break too...it makes you stop and slow down for sure, and I think we really enjoyed the time together!
