This first picture shows him in all his cuteness before we left Pageland a couple weeks back. Amy and David had bought 2 of these shirts when they found out they were pregnant with Andrew (one to give each set of grandparents to announce the big news!) and thank goodness we got pregnant as well and had a baby in 2010 so the extra shirt didn't go to waste! HA! The plan had been to get both babies in the shirts at the same time, unfortunately I think there was only a total of 7 minutes the whole weekend that both babies were awake and happy at the same time...which meant no cute matching shirt pictures:(
Here is big brother Jacob helping give "Little Buddy" (another name he calls Thomas) a bath. He is very helpful in taking the diaper off and splashing water on the baby to keep him warm. As you can see, Thomas loves a good bath and will quiet down instantly if he's cranky before you stick him in! Jeff and I take showers with him as well because it's a little quicker sometimes and he loves that equally well! The first time he took a shower, he slept through it! HAHAHA!! Tonight he just stretched back in my arms and smiled and cooed. Already a little water boy like big brother!
Poor Thomas! This picture documents how relaxed he is. He just sort of hangs out all day long...up until just a couple weeks ago, he would hold his head up...occasionally...otherwise he would just be bobbing around, slumping over in his Boppy or on a lap, etc. He is just quite laid back...certainly compared to Jacob, good grief! That child could hold his head up IN THE HOSPITAL and was bearing all his weight on his legs IN THE HOSPITAL! Can we say gung-ho about life outside the womb? But Thomas, he's interested in a slower pace. This is surprising to us considering my interesting pregnancy where nurse after nurse was shocked at how active he was in my tummy!
This is "Tom Tom" (another name from Jacob) being cute, and looking IDENTICAL to Jacob at this age, on the floor. He likes to kick around and stretch out on the floor for minutes at a time!
Here he is with a bit of a smile. He's been smiling for about 3 weeks now (where we know it's actually smiling and not something happening in his diaper!) but it has really picked up in the past 2 weeks. He has started lots of talking (cooing) as well which is so precious and is one of the most beautiful sounds in the whole world I think.
Again, just relaxing and looking mighty plump! He is going on Monday for his 2 month appt. so I'll know for sure how much he weighs then, but I think it will be a lot!
After Thomas took a test drive in Andrew's vibrating chair in Pageland a couple weeks ago, he decided he wanted to invest in one for his home! So he did. He's so-so on the chair-just like his swing--although he does love the lion toy that hangs over his head! I personally love the chair and the swing because they take up some of that pesky free space in our house that I'm always trying to get rid of!
Again, looking precious. His eyes are VERY dark blue, as you can see here (and in the first picture)...and I'm holding out hope that that means they could turn brown and he could look like me!
Building up his upper body strength with a little tummy time. He didn't like this particular position...but it did give him easy access to his wrist! I should add that he doesn't try to suck his thumb/fingers (unless he's starving)...so I don't really know what he was doing here. He much prefers being flat on the floor and on his tummy as pictured below. As soon as I laid him down like this today, Jacob yelled, "MOM! He rolled off!" Thomas had rolled over and off his blanket! By golly, maybe he's not as laid back as I thought! He's turning into a mover and a shaker!
So you're probably thinking, "yea, this is all great, but how does Thomas like to spend his leisure time?" Well hold your horses, here we are. Thomas and Daddy take in a Clemson basketball game on the computer.
Here is Thomas in his other gadget...his baby pod. We tried him in it for the first time today, and although we were doubtful he would be able to hold himself up enough in it...he did it!
This is one of the pictures that captures as close as we can get to a smile! Every time he is happy and smiling and cooing, we grab the camera, and as soon as he sees that big disgusting black thing, he clams up and stops smiling. Don't worry, we'll get a great one soon!
All in all, we're pretty happy with old Thomas. No, we're THRILLED with Thomas! I have told so many people that after the trouble that we had getting pregnant, and thinking that our kids might be too spread out in age...God has once again proved to be so much SMARTER than I am! HAHA! Shocking! Thomas is the PERFECT addition to our family and Jacob is still so in love with him. God's timing and spacing for our family was much better than what ours would have been! Since Thomas has been here, I've spent one feeding a night (which he sleeps 6 hours at a time! whooohooo!!) praying for our family and thanking the Lord for Jacob and Thomas. I told Jacob the other day that God used and is still using him for a VERY important job- he used him to help bring me to know Jesus. And God has used Thomas for an equally important job-to help grow my faith and obedience to Him. Children are a blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3) and I couldn't be more thankful for God's kindness to us in both boys!
And finally, the verse that I prayed throughout this pregnancy and have continued to pray:
"For this child I have prayed and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him"
1 Samuel 1:27
1 Samuel 1:27
