Jacob's First Haircut!

Well, it's been 18 1/2 months of life with no haircut for Jacob, but today, that streak came to an end when we took him to get it chopped in Clemson! We should have known he was going to put up a fight when we asked him this morning, "Do you want to go get your haircut?" and he continuously (we asked a lot of times, hoping for a different answer) replied, "no".

We took him anyway. He was not a happy camper, the clippers scared him, the scissors scared him, the lady who cut his hair scared him. He cried the whole time, I think, but hey...it's cut now, and it looks much better! We took like 30 pictures as well as a video, so you can all feel like you were there with us!

Trying to escape early on

He can't believe Daddy would be filming this torturous scene!

He has given up at this point and is resting

A Few Updates on our Friend, Jacob

I wanted to post some pictures from our early morning escapade to the park in Clemson that overlooks "the lake". I use the term "lake" loosely, because where there was once water lapping up on the shore, beneath the walkway, there is now essentially a field of tall grass and weeds growing in the mud! Maybe if we have a typhoon, Lake Hartwell will fill back up! Anyway, we went with Heidi and her son, Hunter (2 months, and he slept the ENTIRE time!), and Rebecca, and her two sons, Sam (exactly 2 months older than Jacob) and Troy. Rebecca was thinking on her toes, and brought a huge thing of bubbles to play with out on the dock area, and Sam and Jacob loved that!! These are some pictures from the bubble-palooza!

We also had something fun happen today--a milestone, if you will. Jacob locked himself in the bathroom..by accident of course, he wasn't mad at us or anything like that! Because we have the kind of locks that turn, instead of push in, Jeff had to take the door knob off to get him out!

Jacob Enjoys Packaging

So, we have gotten a few packages in the mail lately, and let's just say, Jacob is thrilled with all of the incoming boxes! He instinctively knew just what to do with the first box full of packing peanuts...throw those bad boys all over the place! And with the next boxes, he was even craftier! He managed to get creative and use the box as a little home...and he tried to close himself in. It was pretty funny. I have a video of him being fantastic, which I will upload at a later date...

Having a Ball With an Audience to Cheer Him On!

This video is self-explanatory, everyone clapped and hollered, and Jacob got SUPER excited and did the same...

More Shenanigans at the River

Jacob and his shopping cart outside at the river

Along with all of our normal riotous behavior, we squeezed in a little time for gardening (to prepare the "grounds" for the wedding) , beaching, looking at geese, looking at squirrels, looking at birds, looking at cats, and a few other things. Here is the proof that these things did in fact happen...

Happily throwing handfuls of mud/sand in the river...not minding at all that his saggy bottom is in the water

Not so happy, after he ate a handful of mud

He climbed up on the bed to wake up the elderly from their nap

Berry Farm

Grandma Liz trying to show Jacob how to pick a strawberry, as if he is into the whole "manual labor" thing!

After our Massanutten adventure, we were still ready for more excitement, so on we went, to Westmoreland County for a few days with the old folks. I had to finish up some wedding stuff while I was around, but in our free time, I managed to snap a few pictures of our dear boy. Oh, and we also managed to do a few activities that Jacob enjoyed along the way.

Our first activity was going to pick strawberries at the Berry Farm. Jacob hadn't shown much interest in eating strawberries pre-berry picking, but everything changed that day. All I had to do was go over to a row of bushes, pick a berry and eat it myself, then hand him one, and he popped it right in, and didn't stop shoveling them in until we left. Basically, he was not a great helper when it came to filling up the bucket with berries, but hey, at least he proved to himself that he likes strawberries! He was pretty well stained from head to toe at the end of that afternoon, but luckily, we washed everything nice and clean, so he can wear it next time he picks berries!!

Day Trippers in Lexington, VA

Big and Little Thump at VMI

The day that Jeff had to go back, we decided to get our fill of history, and head to Lexington, VA, home to VMI and Washington and Lee University. Jeff's quite a fan of some of the major historical players of the area...so we went to see some stuff on Stonewall Jackson, at VMI's museum, and then walked over a couple blocks to the Lee Chapel where Robert E Lee (and his trusty steed) is buried. To complete the day, we hit up the cemetery a few blocks away where Stonewall was buried.

Here are a few pics from the day:

The raincoat that Stonewall was wearing when he was shot in the civil war

The big main building at VMI, with the Stonewall statue and original civil war canons

It was only 123 degrees this day, so why not give Jacob a ride on the old shoulders?

A Few More Pictures and a Video

Daddy seems to be totally relaxed as Baby Jacob is behind the wheel

One More Massanutten Post

Jeff also got to play golf THREE TIMES while we were up in the mountains, which was nice because he never gets to play around here! Here are some of the pictures I took while chauffeuring Jeff in the golf cart one day...

Looking for the ball

*I wasn't able to get any pictures of Jeff throwing his clubs, because it did happen.

More of: Massanutten, The Biggest Resort in the World

Jacob placed his entourage, and then took a seat, and "struck a pose"

When we weren't in the waterpark at Massanutten, we were a.) at the outside pool, b.) at the playground, c.) walking up and down the mountain, or d.) making funny faces and doing silly things inside the condo. Here are some pictures of the rest of our trip:

Jacob showing off how he put on his swim diaper all by himself

With his new suitcase...it holds a wide variety of things usually, oh, and a zebra stuffed animal fits in the outside pocket.

Going down one of the 40 slides at Massanutten, all by himself!

He really has no fear!

Massanutten- The Biggest Resort in the WORLD

The view from our balcony

That's right, you heard me...the place we went a couple weeks ago in the Shenandoah Valley (Virginia) is the largest resort in the world. We were picturing maybe a couple hotels and a few condos, with a pool and ski slopes. We were wrong. This massive complex had like 38,000 million condos, 8,700 hotels, 26 pools, etc.* It had a few playgrounds, which Jacob LOVED, and where he almost got trampled to death, probably 6 or so pools (some indoor and some out) and one HUGE indoor waterpark! If you want to know about how cool the waterpark was, you should talk to my 8 year fiance, Jeff. While other children were told to walk around the park, Jeff ran like a goober...everywhere. I'm exaggerating. He did grab our inner tube as soon as we shot out of the gigantic slides, and sprinted back to the stairs to get in front of the other kids who wanted to go down the slides. Keep in mind, Jeff has a minor heart condition, so when we got to the top (approximately 4 stories up) one time, he asked me to feel his heart beating, and it was pretty much pounding out of his chest due to his sprinting up the flights of stairs. This is what happens when you let him loose, and this is also why I am forced to keep a tight rein on him. Anyway, Jacob didn't really like the waterpark even though there was a really cool area for babies, which included the smallest water slide of all times (it was shaped like a frog, and you slid down his tongue), little sprinklers, and baby swings--now get this--IN the water! He hated all of that goodness. He eventually warmed up to the whole thing and walked with me underneath this huge play-contraption-thing, that had ropes and nets, and bridges and slides, and several of those giant buckets that water parks have, which fill up with water, and once they are to capacity, they tip over and spill gallons of water on everyone in a half mile radius...Jacob loved that stuff...not the baby stuff. He's beyond that. Unfortunately, that was short lived because some kid puked in the water and they had to drain the entire indoor park...HAHAHAH! Luckily, this sprawling compound also had some outside components, so we could still play for the rest of the afternoon elsewhere. I know this post is going on and on, but these are all details that I think the public deserves to hear. Jeff also found a giant slide outside that he loved. He made me go a couple times with him, so he wouldn't be scared, or feel threatened by the 9 year olds that were "racing" him down the slides. Four people went each time, and you "raced" the others to the bottom, head first, on a mat thingy. Jeff took great pride in having beaten all the little kids, every time.

Here are some pictures of the water park, sorry no pics of Jeff and me, you can thank Jeff for wearing a bathing suit not suitable for online posting.

We're Back!

Hey Guys!

Long time, no update! WAHAHAHA. We are back from our 1000 mile road trip, which means.........TONS OF UPDATES AND PICTURES FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE!!! It may take me a bit to get everything organized on the computer, so just bear with me (I don't know that I used the right form of "bear" there, so if it was supposed to be "bare", then don't hate!) and there will be lots of new stuff about our travels very soon!
